Australians encouraged to ‘get in earlier rather than later’ for telephone voting

May 20, 2022

Australians are able to cast their pre-poll vote today via the telephone service, according to Australian Electoral Commission spokesperson Evan Ekin-Smyth.

The federal government, in consultation with the Opposition, has acted on advice from the AEC, saying any voter who has tested positive for COVID-19 after 6pm on Friday 13th of May will be able to access the secure telephone voting service.

“We’ve been encouraging people to register as soon as possible, and it’s an online registration process, the second step is then the telephone call,” Mr Ekin-Smyth told Sky News Australia.

“We’ve been encouraging people to get in earlier rather than later, you might minimise your wait time.”
